Knowing What Will Happen After biatric Surgery
ADDED 05-27-2007
One of the first things that you need to keep in mind is that after your biatric surgery, you will be on a very limited diet. Some of the foods which you will be able to eat include broth, water, jello, and other clear liquids. This will go on for what probably seems like a long time. For some people, it will take up to two weeks before your body will be able to handle shakes or instant breakfast drinks.

While your stomach and intestinal systems are healing from biatric surgery, you will not be very hungry. Also, you will probably notice that the types of food which you used to like do not satisfy your taste buds anymore.

Most people tend to find that finding a liquid which they enjoy enough to drink. However, it is important to make sure that you do drink in order to prevent yourself from becoming dehydrated. You should make sure that you try out a few drinks to find one that you might like or that you can deal with drinking until you have healed. Some people can only tolerate drinking water that is cold or room temperature for two months. After two months, they are able to try flavored fruit drinks.

Many people who have gone through biatric surgery tend to find that they can tolerate eating fats or carbohydrates. Within some patients, even the tiniest amount of these foods can cause "dumping syndrome". Other people cannot seem to tolerate eating vegetables and salads either. The main reason for this is due to the fact that the fiber that is found in vegetables can be hard on the esophagus and the stomach, which is now delicate. Sometimes, in order to make vegetables tolerable, you can begin by eating a salad that consists of plain lettuce with oil. Then, you can begin adding new vegetables to your salad one at a time. Also, you should make sure that you chew all of your vegetables very thoroughly.
